Brian Garibaldi Named a Health Care Hero

Brian Garibaldi

Brian Garibaldi, M.D., M.Ed., an associate professor of medicine, has been named a 2021 Health Care Hero in the COVID-19 Heroes category by the Maryland Daily Record newspaper. The awards honor health care workers who are on the front line caring for patients and fighting COVID-19. Garibaldi, who also is a pulmonologist and medical director of the Johns Hopkins Biocontainment Unit, was nominated for his work overseeing the care of the first patients with COVID-19 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and, as more patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized, for developing, with his team, protocols for other units around the hospital and the entire Johns Hopkins Health System. These protocols allowed Johns Hopkins' health care providers to scale their ability to care for patients with COVID-19 — protocols that are still used to manage patients more than a year later.
