Howard County General Hospital offers a very competitive benefits package. These benefits are available to employees scheduled to work 60 or more hours during each two-week pay period. Staff who work 40 scheduled hours per two-week pay period may be eligible for certain parts of the benefits plan.

Tuition Assistance, College Dependent Tuition and Scholarships
HCGH recognizes the importance of life-long education and training. Employees who work 30 to 40 hours per week may receive up to $3, 000 per year for career-related undergraduate courses or $5,000 per year for career-related graduate courses, all at accredited colleges or universities. Part-time employees who work 20-29 hours per week may be eligible for $1,500 per year for undergraduate and $2,000 per year for graduate courses. Staff must complete six months of service prior to receiving this benefit. HCGH also assists employees with the cost of college tuition for dependent children at an accredited college or university. The maximum annual benefit is $10,000 for each dependent, maximum of two children per employee at one time and limited to four years of full-time undergraduate study per child. The benefit is taxable. Scholarships for qualified employees in an approved nursing program are also available, $3,000 per year or $6,000 per year for an accelerated program. The Hoerichs Nursing Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for employees or their children to complete two clinical years of the nursing education program at Howard Community College.
Holidays and Paid Time Off
Employees who work 20 to 40 hours per week accrue annual leave on a pro-rated basis depending on the number of hours worked. The amount of leave an employee accrues increases the longer he’s employed and each employee must complete 120 days of employment before he is eligible to use accrued annual leave.

Dental and vision plans are offered to employees and HCGH pays a portion of the costs.
401(k)
HCGH offers every employee the opportunity to participate in a 401(k) plan, regardless of seniority or hours worked. Employees may contribute consistent with IRS regulations and may select from a variety of investment options to meet their savings needs. After employees have worked for the hospital for one year, and have worked at least 1,000 hours in an anniversary year, HCGH employees will automatically contribute 1 percent of the employee’s salary to his or her account. In addition, the hospital will match 50 percent of an employee’s contribution up to 6 percent of salary.
Disability and Life Insurance
HCGH offers free basic life insurance equivalent to one time your annual salary. Additional coverage may be purchased by the employee. HCGH pays 100 percent of the cost of short-term disability for employees who elect that coverage. Long-term disability insurance is offered at the employee’s expense and covers 60 percent of basic monthly earnings after six months of disability.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts allow employees to set money aside on a pre-tax basis to help pay for health care and dependent care expenses not covered by insurance. Employees can contribute according to IRS regulations.
