Staff members at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center are devoted to southeast Baltimore and continually strive to earn their place as an integral part of the community. Among our offerings are public outreach programs, health seminars and screenings, many of which are free.

IN OUR COMMUNITY Johns Hopkins Medicine and Asylee Women Enterprise Work Together to Help Asylum Seekers

This year, the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund awarded AWE a $15,000 grant. The fund supports nonprofit organizations that serve the communities near Johns Hopkins campuses and are associated with Johns Hopkins Medicine through employee or institutional involvement. The Neighborhood Fund uses pledge donations made through the United Way campaign to help local nonprofit organizations build stronger neighborhoods by addressing needs in areas of community revitalization, education, employment, health and public safety.

in our community Collaborating with the Community and Baltimore City to Make Returning to Worship Safer

After streaming religious services online for a year, Baltimore faith leaders want to know what COVID-19 protocols to follow during in-person services. This inspired a collaboration among houses of worship, Baltimore City and Johns Hopkins to help advise religious leaders about how to safely return to on-site worship. The medical-religious partnership began a pilot program phase July 21 at the Muslim Community Cultural Center and at Israel Baptist Church, which is just northeast of The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

    • Food Re-Education for Elementary School Health

      The Community Relations Department at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is pleased to offer Food Re-Education for Elementary School Health (FRESH), an innovative nutrition education program available to elementary schools in Southeastern Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

    • Called to Care®: A Program For Family Caregivers

      We recognize the importance of family caregivers, as well as the physical and emotional stresses that can accompany caregiving. For this reason, we have created Called to Care, a program that prepares and supports individuals caring for loved ones.

    • Healthy Community Partnership

      The Healthy Community Partnership grew out of relationships that Johns Hopkins Bayview established with a number of area religious congregations.

    Gayle Adams Community Service Grant

    Gayle Adams

    The Gayle Adams Community Service Grant was established to honor the service and distinguished career of Gayle Adams, who retired in 2014 after 40 years of service as director of Community Relations at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

    Community service grants ranging from $250 to $1,500 will be considered for those organizations in southeast Baltimore whose projects focus on the improvement of the health and wellness of the surrounding community. Applications are due by June 5, 2020.
