Background

Junaid Razzak, M.B.B.S., M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Director of the Center for Global Emergency Medicine, and Director of the Tele-Emergency Medicine program. He also served as director of the Faculty Wellness Program in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Razzak’s current research focus is on community-based interventions for preventing and improving the outcomes from acute illnesses. As director of telemedicine in the emergency medicine department, Dr. Razzak is leading an innovative clinical and research program on the use of technology in improving access to emergency care. 

Following his emergency medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Razzak served as a member of faculty at Yale and Emory Universities. He also served as the founding chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine; and founding director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Razzak was also the founding member of Aman Healthcare Services, a nonprofit organization in Karachi, and served as its CEO. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of emergency medicine as a specialty in Pakistan including establishing the first advanced life support service in the country.  Dr. Razzak has a Ph.D. in public health from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

Dr. Razzak's research is focused on the confluence of community health, emergency medicine, and technology. He has published on community-based care of injuries, cardiac arrest, and mass casualty events.  He is especially interested in studying innovations that will help leapfrog emergency care system development in low resource settings.
